The patient and a friend wrote multiple reviews across several platforms saying it was all my fault and that I was a jerk for suggesting a free extraction was a fair solution.
She'd had a root canal through an old crown; when I saw the crown failing we recommended replacement. She scheduled, canceled, and avoided it for nearly two years, then said she was ready, reporting no pain or symptoms. After the new crown there was minor post-op discomfort; we referred to an endodontist who suspected a crack, so retreatment carried a questionable prognosis. She leaned toward extraction but expected me to pay for everything — extraction, implant, and crown — believing I had done the original crown and root canal. In fact both were done elsewhere: the original crown before 2002, and the root canal during years she was away from the practice. Since it wasn't certain the tooth had to come out and I wasn't at fault, I offered to extract it at no charge, with anything beyond that (grafting, implant) as her responsibility.
Reputational damage spread across multiple review sites.
I offered a no-charge extraction as a fair resolution; she rejected it and posted the reviews.
